EXPERIMENTAL INSIGHTS INTO Li-ION CELLAGING FOR SoC/SoH ESTIMATION

The aim of this work is to obtain experimental data on the behavior of Li-ion cells, which can be used to improve state-of-charge (SoC) and state-of-health (SoH) estimation algorithms. This requires testing and characterization (check-up) of these cells at various stages of their life cycle, including their cycling (or aging) over time. To collect relevant data on cell performance, persistent disturbances are applied to excite the full voltage/current range and the corresponding frequency domain. Two battery chemistries were considered: NMC (LiNiMnCoO2) and LFP (LiFePO4) Li-ion cells, both in industrial 18650 format. The studied application is electromobility, characterized by electrochemical storage systems with relatively high capacity compared to rated power, which involves low C-rate current discharge profiles.
