Fully compensated ferrimagnetism in a Cr2TiC2 monolayer MXene

Fully compensated ferrimagnets have the combined advantages of both the band spin splitting of ferromagnetism and the zero net magnetization of antiferromagnetism, which endows them with numerous advantages, such as a spin-polarized charge current, a lack of magnetic stray fields, and being uneasily affected by external magnetic fields in fast and energy-efficient spintronic devices. Two-dimensional MXenes with a sandwich structure, comprising two magnetic atomic layers separated by nonmagnetic atomic layers, are potential fully compensated ferrimagnets, exhibiting intralayer ferromagnetic and interlayer antiferromagnetic coupling. Interestingly, fully compensated ferrimagnetism can be obtained in the Cr2TiC2 monolayer MXene based on first-principles calculations. Our results provide more potential two-dimensional candidates for fully compensated ferrimagnets.
