APENDICITE AGUDA NÃO COMPLICADA: TRATAMENTO CIRÚRGICO
ABSTRACT Acute appendicitis is a common abdominal emergency, with appendectomy traditionally being the standard treatment. Recently, antibiotics have emerged as an effective alternative for uncomplicated cases, as shown by the CODA trial. Despite promising results with conservative treatment, appendectomy remains widely recommended due to its long-term effectiveness. The objective of this systematic review is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of surgical treatment in acute uncomplicated appendicitis, comparing different surgical approaches in terms of clinical outcomes and patient recovery. The scientific databases Scopus and PubMed were used for article selection, with the following English keywords: “Acute Appendicitis, Uncomplicated Appendicitis, Surgical Treatment, Appendectomy”. The comparison of surgical and conservative treatments for uncomplicated acute appendicitis highlights the superiority of appendectomy, especially laparoscopic, in terms of effectiveness and recovery. Despite the initial benefits of antibiotics and endoscopic therapy, surgery provides a definitive solution, reducing recurrence rates and long-term complications. Conservative treatment can be viable in specific cases, but appendectomy is generally preferred due to its proven success. Therefore, the decision should be based on individual characteristics and patient preferences, however, current evidence strongly supports surgery. Keywords: Acute Appendicitis, Uncomplicated Appendicitis, Surgical Treatment, Appendectomy.
