Correlation analysis of statistical interrelations of special abilities with indicators of competitive activity of highly skilled field hockey players

Background and Study Aim. The effectiveness of sports training depends on targeted influences in order to improve the special abilities of athletes. The influences themselves are carried out taking into account the interrelations of indicators of preparedness and competitive activity of sportsmen. Determination of such interrelations is based on correlation analysis. The purpose of the study is to determine the special abilities of field hockey players of high qualification and to carry out a correlation analysis of their statistical relationships with indicators of the integrated assessment of competitive activity. Material and methods. The study involved 40 highly skilled field hockey players. The average age was 24.7±4.27 years. Sports qualification – master of sports of Ukraine. The following methods were used in the research: theoretical analysis of literary sources, pedagogical observation, video recording of competitive activity, pedagogical testing, method of expert assessments, methods of mathematical statistics. Results. Five components of special abilities of highly skilled field hockey players have been identified: • Morphofunctional – age, height, body weight, Kettle's index; • Physical fitness – 30 m high start run, long jump from a place, 180 m shuttle run, Cooper test; • Functional fitness – MOXmax, МOXrelative, PWS170, PWS170(V); • Physical fitness in conjunction with technique – running 14.63 m with kicking the ball, introduction, circling the posts – a shot in the goal, introduction – passing the ball to the target, throwing the ball with a stick at a distance, a series of shots in the goal; • Technical and tactical skills – level of performance of technical and tactical actions in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd modes of coordination complexity. The statistical correlations of indicators of special abilities with indicators of integral assessment of competitive activity are established. Conclusions. The revealed statistical correlations between the indicators of special abilities and indicators of the integral assessment of competitive activity of highly skilled field hockey players allow to optimise the process of their training.
