EXPERIMENT IN ASSESSING THE CONDITION OF PLANTS USING ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY AND DIGITAL LEAF COLOR DATA: A CASE STUDY OF NORWAY MAPLE (ACER PLATANOIDES L.) IN THE CONDITIONS OF THE MOSCOW AGGLOMERATION

Abstract The impact of abiotic and biotic stress factors affects the quality of plant material and accelerates leaf aging (adaptive response). According to the visual diagnostic data, it is possible to quickly clarify the set of preventive measures, which is important for collection plantings and the urban greening, where the use of chemical protective agents is strictly regulated. As test plants, leaves of Norway maple (Acer platanoides L.) were studied, characterized by a wide range of coloration and susceptibility to phytopathogens - fungal diseases (powdery mildew) and pests. The study of the digital color analysis method demonstrated its potential application, including as part of visual diagnostics for monitoring phytopathology of tree species under urban conditions. Objective assessment of plant resistance to stress is associated with their antioxidant status. Results obtained showed increased production of substances with antioxidant activity capable of performing barrier and protective functions under urban growth conditions and exposure to phytopathogen influence.
