THE EFFECT OF THE MATRIX EFFECT OF CALLUNA VULGARIS ON THE EXTRACTION OF POLYPHENOLS WITH DEEP EUTECTIC SOLVENTS
Isolation of biologically active substances (BAS) from plant raw materials, assessment of their quantity and composition is an important task in the development of phytotherapy. The main components of medicinal plants are polyphenols, alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, essential oils, tannins and polysaccharides. Polyphenolic compounds exhibit antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, and antimutagenic properties, making them promising components for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and the prevention of neurodegenerative disorders. The paper investigates the matrix effect of Calluna vulgaris on the extraction of polyphenols using traditional (methanol, water) and natural deep eutectic solvents (choline chloride with acids, amines and alcohols) by HPLC-UV. The extraction of biologically active substances was carried out using ultrasound radiation at temperature of 60 °C for 30 min. Calluna vulgaris has been found to contain biologically active substances that have antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiprotozoal, antidepressant, cytoprotective, and anti-inflammatory effects. It was found that, depending on the solvent, the matrix effect of plant ranges from 52 to 108%.
