The role of the headache nurse: a key player in multidisciplinary headache management
Migraine is a prevalent, disabling neurological condition which remains misunderstood, underdiagnosed and undertreated. This article explores the expanding role of the headache nurse, highlighting key responsibilities such as leadership, prescribing and contributions to the development of treatment pathways. Hypothetical clinical case studies are presented to demonstrate the delivery of timely, patient-centred care within UK migraine services. This article increases the awareness of the burden of migraine and encourages greater investment in nurse-led services, positioning headache nurses as vital to the future of effective migraine management.
