A Wideband, High-Gain and Pattern-Diversity Dielectric Resonator Antenna

This article primarily presents a wideband, high-gain and pattern-diversity cylindrical dielectric resonant antenna (DRA). The DRA comprises two ports: Port 1 stimulates its HEM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">311</inf> and HEM321 modes to produce broadside radiation patterns, while Port 2 activates its TM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">021</inf> and TM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">031</inf> modes, resulting in omnidirectional radiation patterns. Incorporating air zones at strategic spots inside the DRA can enhance the bandwidth of each port. The simulation results indicate that the suggested pattern-diversity DRA exhibits an overlapping bandwidth of 24.9 %, with a peak gain of no less than 6.7 dBi for both ports.

Abstract

This article primarily presents a wideband, high-gain and pattern-diversity cylindrical dielectric resonant antenna (DRA). The DRA comprises two ports: Port 1 stimulates its HEM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">311</inf> and HEM321 modes to produce broadside radiation patterns, while Port 2 activates its TM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">021</inf> and TM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">031</inf> modes, resulting in omnidirectional radiation patterns. Incorporating air zones at strategic spots inside the DRA can enhance the bandwidth of each port. The simulation results indicate that the suggested pattern-diversity DRA exhibits an overlapping bandwidth of 24.9 %, with a peak gain of no less than 6.7 dBi for both ports.
