V-Band Miniaturized Four-Channel Front-End for Phased Array Applications

In response to the requirements of millimeter-wave communication applications, this paper presents a design for the front-end of an active phased array system operating in the V-band, specifically designed for a brick-and-tile hybrid structure. The key structures of the system are designed and simulated. The front-end module adopts a brick-shaped structure, utilizing a ridge-fin line structure to achieve the transition between waveguides and microstrips. The module exhibits a return loss greater than 33 dB at 60 GHz and satisfies the requirement of S<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">11</inf>< −20 dB across the entire V-band. Additionally, a non-standard waveguide structure is employed for interconnection within the front-end module, reducing the waveguide size from the standard 19 mm to 7.5 mm, significantly reducing the overall size of the phased array system.
