A Low-Cost Ku-Band Parabolic Reflector-Based Multibeam Antenna

In this paper, a Ku-band high-gain multibeam antenna is proposed based on a low-cost parabolic reflector. The antenna mainly consists of a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot antenna as the feed and a parabolic reflector for enhancing the gain. The SIW feed slot antenna has multiple slots which can be controlled by PIN diodes individually via a controlling circuit. By sampling controlling the excitation of each slot, multiple pencil-shaped beams can be generated towards different angles without incurring any beamforming circuit. Such a multibeam antenna provides an effective solution to achieve high-gain multiple beams at a low cost, which would be highly desirable in mm-wave and satellite communications.
