A Low-Cost Terahertz Antenna Array with Wideband Characteristic

This paper presents a low-cost, wideband terahertz antenna array operating at 140 GHz. The antenna consists of a hollow waveguide feeding network and a microstrip patch array. The feeding network is designed as a four-way power divider, while the radiating structure consists of four subarrays, each containing seven radiating elements. Featuring a simple architecture, the proposed antenna can be fabricated using standard computer numerical control (CNC) milling and printed circuit board (PCB) technologies, resulting in cost-effective manufacturing. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed antenna array achieves a −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 30.0%, covering the frequency range of 116.9 to 158.2 GHz. Additionally, it offers a 3-dB gain bandwidth of 32.7% and a peak gain of 19.3 dBi.
