Design of the Active Sonar Target Feature Database
Active sonar detection is a key method for underwater target detection and identification. By processing echoes from surface, underwater, and seabed targets, features are extracted to aid in target classification. However, during active sonar target recognition, the large number of underwater and surface targets not only increases recognition workload but also reduces efficiency, potentially causing critical targets to be missed. Subsea stationary objects within a given marine area, such as seamounts and sunken ships, typically have fixed locations. Consequently, these underwater targets need not be the focus of every detection. This paper proposes a design concept for an active sonar target echo feature database and establishes its model. This approach achieves effective management of active sonar target data while enabling preliminary screening of stationary underwater objects prior to target recognition. Serving as an auxiliary tool, the database enhances target identification capability by providing a basis for sample selection, thereby optimizing the overall recognition process.
