A Broadband Filtering Multimode-Composite Antenna
A wideband multimode-composite antenna with filtering function is proposed in this paper. This antenna integrates a half-wave dipole mode, a patch mode, an aperture mode, and a parallel dipole mode. Compared to traditional magnetoelectric (ME) dipole, the patch mode and parallel dipole mode improve the operating bandwidth of the proposed antenna. Moreover, the proposed antenna demonstrates radiation nulls at both the lower and upper operating frequencies, without the need for additional filtering structures. To verify the feasibility of the design, an antenna prototype was processed and tested. A good agreement is achieved between simulated and measured results. The measured results demonstrate that this antenna can achieve an impedance bandwidth of 107% from 19.8 GHz to 65.4 GHz. Benefitted from the broad bandwidth and excellent filtering performance, the proposed antenna would be a promising candidate for millimeter-wave wireless communication systems.
