Compact Dual-Band Dual-Polarized Omnidirectional Dipole Antenna for Wi-Fi 6E Applications

This paper presents a compact dual-band dual-polarized dipole antenna featuring single-layer configuration and omnidirectional coverage. The design innovatively integrates two cross-orthogonal antenna cells, each comprising a driven Egyptian axe dipole (EAD) synergistically coupled with stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) and near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) grids. This fusion enables simultaneous excitation of dual polarization states while achieving 4% (2.4-2.5 GHz) and 74.8% (3.83-8.43 GHz) impedance bandwidths that fully cover Wi-Fi 6E standards. The proposed antenna demonstrates stable realized gains up to 2.5 dBi with consistent omnidirectional patterns. Simulated results verify the design's advantages in polarization diversity and frequency-agile operation over conventional solutions. The antenna's compact planar structure (single-layer, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{ka}=\mathbf{0.82}$</tex> at 2.4 GHz) makes it particularly suitable for space-constrained Wi-Fi devices requiring full-band spectrum access.

Abstract

This paper presents a compact dual-band dual-polarized dipole antenna featuring single-layer configuration and omnidirectional coverage. The design innovatively integrates two cross-orthogonal antenna cells, each comprising a driven Egyptian axe dipole (EAD) synergistically coupled with stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) and near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) grids. This fusion enables simultaneous excitation of dual polarization states while achieving 4% (2.4-2.5 GHz) and 74.8% (3.83-8.43 GHz) impedance bandwidths that fully cover Wi-Fi 6E standards. The proposed antenna demonstrates stable realized gains up to 2.5 dBi with consistent omnidirectional patterns. Simulated results verify the design's advantages in polarization diversity and frequency-agile operation over conventional solutions. The antenna's compact planar structure (single-layer, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\boldsymbol{ka}=\mathbf{0.82}$</tex> at 2.4 GHz) makes it particularly suitable for space-constrained Wi-Fi devices requiring full-band spectrum access.
