Electromagnetic Surge Simulation in Inductors Using an Adaptive Time-Stepping FEM

This study employs a self-developed time-domain finite element method (FETD) integrated with adaptive timestepping technique to simulate the impact of an electromagnetic pulse on some magnetic components with magnetic saturation and lossy effects treated appropriately. Through field-circuit co-simulation, transient magnetic saturation and eddy current loss distributions are quantitatively resolved. The method achieves accelerated simulation with maintained accuracy, enabling efficient design of surge-resistant components.

Abstract

This study employs a self-developed time-domain finite element method (FETD) integrated with adaptive timestepping technique to simulate the impact of an electromagnetic pulse on some magnetic components with magnetic saturation and lossy effects treated appropriately. Through field-circuit co-simulation, transient magnetic saturation and eddy current loss distributions are quantitatively resolved. The method achieves accelerated simulation with maintained accuracy, enabling efficient design of surge-resistant components.
