Smart Solar Panel Cleaning System with Time-based Automation and IoT Control

With the global adoption of solar energy rapidly increasing, maintaining the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) systems has become more critical than ever. One of the primary causes of reduced efficiency is the accumulation of dust and dirt on solar panels. To address this, the proposed project introduces a Smart Solar Panel Cleaning System that integrates time-based automation with Internet of Things (IoT) control, aiming to maximize energy output with minimal human intervention. A microcontroller automates the cleaning process at scheduled intervals, helping to reduce performance loss due to soiling. The system uses a low-power, motor-driven brush mechanism that is both lightweight and energy-efficient, ensuring it consumes less energy than it saves. In addition to scheduled cleaning, the IoT-enabled system allows remote monitoring and control via a user-friendly mobile or web interface. Users can track performance in real time, receive alerts, and override schedules when necessary. Environmental sensors are also integrated to optimize water and energy use by adjusting cleaning frequency based on conditions such as rainfall, dust storms, and humidity. Designed to be scalable and adaptable, the system is suitable for residential, commercial, and industrial solar installations. Overall, it enhances panel efficiency while reducing long-term operating and maintenance costs.
