Implementation of Wi-Fi dynamic multi-hop networking method based on dual NICs

When a natural disaster occurs, the infrastructure network facilities will be paralyzed in a large area, causing the disaster area to be in an offline state. A dynamic self-organizing network structure is urgently needed to achieve news diffusion within the disaster area. People commonly use Wi-Fi to build self-organized networks, and Wi-Fi NICs have been widely used in smartphones and tablets. Still, their support for Ad Hoc mode on these devices is poor, and in Wi-Fi Direct mode, the connection latency of the devices is high, which makes it difficult to meet the timeliness requirements of early warning messages. AP and STA are the modes supported by default by Wi-Fi NICs, and the connection latency is low. Current research has attempted to establish a multi-hop network utilizing the AP+STA dual-card mode. However, the scheme relies on manual configuration, lacks dynamic networking capabilities, and is challenging to adapt to the needs of node mobility and frequent connection. This paper proposes a dynamic self-organizing network system based on the AP+STA dual-card mode. Nodes can automatically connect, forward, and spread messages without manual intervention, with good mobility support and communication recovery capability, which improves the applicability of the system in post-disaster warning.
