Perception Service-Aided Channel Estimation in Wireless Communication Systems
Perception services are inherent within numerous mobile user equipments (UEs), consequently yielding a wealth of perception information, such as delay and Doppler-related data. These insights from perception services, which are intricately tied to channel estimation (CE) and offer potential for enhancing CE accuracy, have not been adequately leveraged for CE methods. Due to the presence of multipath and Doppler frequency shift in wireless communication systems, the CE accuracy is significantly degraded. To improve the CE accuracy, this paper investigates a perception service-aided CE method, drawing inspiration from the communication-centric integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) paradigm. Specifically, the proposed method utilizes the location and velocity data extracted by perception services to derive the delay and Doppler spreads of transmission channels. By incorporating these spreads as prior information for sparsity constraints, the channel sparsity in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain is comprehensively exploited to reduce CE errors. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in rectifying estimation errors by leveraging perception services. Notably, the enhancements in CE accuracy are observed not only in the delay dimension but also in the Doppler dimension compared with conventional CE enhancement methods. Additionally, the simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is robust against the impacts of the line-of-sight (LoS) distance, velocity and perception error.
