Coastal erosion risk and infrastructure protection in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam

Abstract With the intensification of global climate change and the rapid economic development of coastal areas, Vietnam’s Mekong Delta is facing severe threats of coastal surveys, groundwater salinity and flooding, which pose a serious and destructive impact on regional infrastructure. We used the CERA2.0 model to systematically assess coastal profile risks and impacts on infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region by combining four modules (debt, Value, risk and coastal profile) with GIS and statistical analysis methods. Based on these findings, the paper proposes a number of responses, including strengthening climate change resilience, improving water management and infrastructure, promoting ecological restoration and protection, and promoting sustainable economic growth. The results of the study provide scientific basis for sustainable development and policy making in the Mekong Delta.
