Pattern Diversity Based on Single-Layer Reflectarray Antennas

In this paper, a single-layer reflectarray antenna (RA) with pattern diversity is proposed. The RA can radiate a directional or a conical pattern at the desired angular region depending on the incident waves' directions. The pattern diversity property of the RA is achieved by the superposition of the aperture field, which contains phase distribution information of both radiation modes on the surface of the array. A 20 × 20-element prototype has been fabricated and measured to verify the pattern diversity property of the proposed RA.

Abstract

In this paper, a single-layer reflectarray antenna (RA) with pattern diversity is proposed. The RA can radiate a directional or a conical pattern at the desired angular region depending on the incident waves' directions. The pattern diversity property of the RA is achieved by the superposition of the aperture field, which contains phase distribution information of both radiation modes on the surface of the array. A 20 × 20-element prototype has been fabricated and measured to verify the pattern diversity property of the proposed RA.
