Ideación suicida en estudiantes de dos universidades pública del estado de Nayarit: un análisis comparativo por género
Introduction: Suicidal ideation among university students represents a significant public health issue influenced by multiple associated factors. Objective: To analyze the prevalence of suicidal ideation in university students from the state of Nayarit, Mexico, considering sociodemographic variables and psychological factors. Method: A quantitative, cross-sectional, and comparative study was conducted with a non-probabilistic sample of 722 students from public higher education institutions. The Plutchik Suicide Risk Scale was applied. Results: A total of 23.3% of students reported suicidal ideation, with a higher prevalence among young women (ages 17–21). Significant correlations were found with depression, hopelessness, previous suicidal thoughts, and feelings of failure. Although men reported lower levels of ideation, they showed a higher risk of completed suicide. Significant differences were also identified based on religious affiliation. Conclusion: It is recommended to implement prevention strategies with an intersectional and human rights-based approach, promoting safe and empathetic academic environments.
