Research Progress on the Application of Hyaluronic Acid in Improving Skeletal Joints and Sports Nutrition
Hyaluronic acid (HA; colloquially in Chinese) is a linear polysaccharide composed of alternating units of glucuronic acid and N-acetylglucosamine. It is a natural constituent of human connective tissues, skin, synovial fluid, and the vitreous body of the eye. After extraction and purification, HA can be used for moisture retention and water-locking, anti-aging and dermal filling/contouring, joint lubrication and cushioning, and to promote wound repair. This paper provides a detailed overview of the mechanisms and efficacy of hyaluronic acid in the treatment of osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal disorders.
