El flag football y las orientaciones de meta en escolares de educación secundaria

Introduction: Physical education in the school context and ego-centered goal orientations through conventional sports were examined, and flag football was considered as an inclusive alternative oriented toward personal progress. Objective: To implement flag football to enhance goal orientations in secondary school students. Methodology: Pre-experimental quantitative approach. In a purposive and convenience sample of 38 secondary school students, the intervention was carried out over fifteen weeks and the Perception of Success Questionnaire (POSQ) (Roberts, Treasure, & Balagué, 1998), adapted to the school context by Navas et al. (2006), was used. Results: The results showed statistically significant differences, with task orientation increasing and ego orientation decreasing significantly in the overall sample and in both sexes, with large effect sizes (Cohen's d > .80; r > .80), thus demonstrating a change resulting from the intervention program. Discussion: The results supported theoretical contributions linking conventional sports with an ego orientation and showed, after the flag football intervention, a tendency toward the task, coinciding with studies that highlight the benefits of introducing alternative sports to encourage participation and self-esteem, with a greater emphasis on personal improvement. Conclusions: The implementation of flag football proved effective in shifting from competitive goals to improvement goals, promoting an inclusive and participatory environment.
