The influence of field of vision, sense of time, and visual perception of objects on the accuracy of shots on goal by young handball players

Background and purpose A shot on goal in handball is a key moment in offensive play and directly affects the team's success. This fact raises interest in understanding and optimizing programs for improving handball players' shooting skills. The relationship between visual functions and athletic performance is being actively studied, but there is still a need for more specific research focusing on the influence of visual analyzer components on the accuracy of shots on goal from different playing positions in handball. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of the field of vision, sense of time, and visual perception of objects on the accuracy of shots on goal by young handball players. Material and methods Fourteen handball players aged 14-15 participated in the study. The size of the field of vision was determined by the perimetry method using a Forster perimeter for a colorless object, separately for the right and left eyes. Determination of the time of a simple sensorimotor reaction to light (by hand), reproduction of the duration of the time interval filled with a light signal, assessment of the size of the proposed segments, and reproduction of the size of the proposed segments took place in natural conditions before training using the software and hardware complex for psychophysiological testing “Psychologot.” The research results were processed using the Statistica package. To establish the relationships between the indicators studied in the work, Pearson's correlation coefficient was calculated. Results Initial assessments of various parameters studied generally showed insignificant differences between the right and left eyes. This indicates a relatively uniform visual profile in the test group. 77,07% of the young handball players' throws were effective. Conclusions The conducted researches established the existence of interrelation between the accuracy of goal shots of 14-15-year-old handball players and indicators of an assessment and reproduction of the offered segments; between the accuracy of a throw in a jump with a rotation on 180֯ and the size of a field of vision on a horizontal axis.
