THE EFFECTIVENESS OF AN INTERACTIVE BIG BOOK IN EARLY LITERACY SKILLS ACQUISITION OF PRIMARY LEARNERS
This study investigated the effectiveness of using an interactive big book (IBB) as a tool to enhance early language acquisition among primary learners.Recognizing the vital role of language in education, the research explored how an interactive and visually appealing big book could influence and improve the vocabulary and language acquisition skills of primary learners.A quasi-experimental and descriptive research design was used among two groups of Grade 1 learners in one of the elementary schools in Bulihan, Malolos, Bulacan: one group was exposed to the IBB for over two weeks, and the other was not.Data were gathered through pre-and posttests using the CRLA and analyzed using a t-test.Results suggested that the group exposed to the intervention showed significant improvements, demonstrating its effectiveness. The t-value was -1.7285, indicating a negative difference between the two results. The p-value was below the commonly used threshold, recorded at 0.0465.These findings indicated that the IBB was an effective intervention for fostering early language development in primary learners.Furthermore, the study recommended that future researchers consider larger sample size, longer implementation, varied utilization strategies, additional big books, and integration of technology.
