The Prospective Analysis of Solar Lighting Technology in Enhancing Safety and Energy Sustainability for Rural Mosques in Malaysia: A Case Study of Sultan Yussuf Izzudin Shah Mosque in Perak

Abstract: This research presents a prospective analysis of implementing solar lighting technology in rural public mosques in Malaysia, focusing on the Sultan Yussuf Izzudin Shah Mosque in Perak Tengah, Malaysia. While solar lighting technology has gained attention globally for its environmental and economic benefits, its application in Malaysian mosques remains underexplored. Previous studies on this topic are limited, highlighting the need for further investigation to optimize its benefits for Malaysian mosques. Solar lighting technology offers significant advantages for mosque, such as establishing energy sustainability, lowering monthly electricity bills, and enhancing safety. However, the extent to which these benefits are realized in public mosques, particularly in rural areas, is still insufficiently researched. This study aims to bridge that gap by exploring how solar lighting can improve the mosque’s energy efficiency and sustainability. Using an exploratory research design, this study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining field surveys and direct observations to gather data. The findings from the simulation and modelling process reveal that solar lighting technology not only enhances the safety of the mosque but also substantially reduces electricity costs by 10%. By establishing these findings, the research contributes to the broader discourse on sustainable energy solutions for rural public institutions in Malaysia, offering valuable insights for future implementation in similar settings.
