SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT AND MENTAL HEALTH ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH REFERENCE TO GENDER

The main objectives of the present study are to find out the levels of school environment, mental health and academic achievement of higher secondary school students; and to find out the relationship among school environment and mental health of higher secondary school students.The present study descriptive survey method was adopted.The sample consists of 600 higher secondary school students from different types of higher secondary schools in Ariyalur district of Tamil Nadu.The results reveal that there exists a significant difference between boys and girls of higher secondary school students in the mean score of school environment.The study also reveals that there is a significant positive correlation between school environment and mental health; school environment and academic achievement; and mental health and academic achievement of higher secondary school students.It is quite clear that the mental health and school environment should properly be inculcated or improved in higher secondary school students to achieve higher in academic performance.
