Ensuring Urban Inclusivity and Empowering Underprivileged Women Engaged in Beggary in Patna
In the bustling heart of India’s tier 1 and tier II cities, where high rise buildings are common and economies thrive, a silent struggle unfolds among the women living in squatter settlements, slums and often involved in beggary. These women have earlier been invisible to the policy makers but now several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have brought transformative social change by bringing them into mainstream society. This study focuses on Shanti Kutir Women Rehabilitation Centre, Patna, which actively works for rehabilitation of women engaged in beggary. It highlights the effort of the NGO in providing skill, empowering women and ensuring their inclusivity in urban Patna.
