Preventive preoperative therapeutic attitudes
Modern anesthesia has become, due to technological and scientific advances, one of the safest medical specialties; however, challenges such as an aging population, medication errors, and professional burnout can still impact patient safety. The pre-anesthetic consultation, conducted exclusively by the anesthesiologist, is essential for assessing the perioperative risk, establishing the anesthetic plan, and strengthening the doctor-patient relationship. This step involves analyzing the medical history, current treatment, and investigation results. Premedication aims to reduce anxiety and postoperative risks, but it must be individually tailored, especially in children. Effective communication and empathy are essential in managing patient expectations. Advances in anesthesia allow complex procedures to be performed on patients with multiple comorbidities, requiring careful planning and adjustments to existing medications to prevent perioperative complications.
