Knowledge management system model in the scholarly publication cycle to support Indonesian scholar smart learning
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to address Indonesian scholars’ challenges in the performance of scholarly publications. This study proposes a novel knowledge management system (KMS) model integrated with smart learning to enhance scholarly publication productivity, addressing scholars’ gaps in time and knowledge. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. This study involves developing a KMS model based on the scholarly publication cycle (SPC) to support smart learning, using conceptual models, forming theoretical models and hypotheses through qualitative interviews, refining these models with expert input and surveys and analyzing both functional and nonfunctional aspects impacting SPC and smart learning using Structural Equation Modeling. Findings This study presents an empirically validated KMS model for the SPC to enhance smart learning in Indonesian scholarly institutions. The findings of this study suggest that implementing a robust KMS can significantly improve scholar productivity and elevate the global standing of Indonesian scholarly institutions. This study shows that of 11 hypotheses (causality between KM, SPC and smart learning), only 1 hypothesis was rejected (limited influence of KM strategies on SPC). Originality/value This study contributes a novel KMS model that integrates the SPC and innovative learning, addressing specific challenges in the Indonesian scholarly society, higher education institutions and research institutions. This paper also provides a framework for enhancing scholarly publication performance.
