Knowledge about human papillomavirus (HPV) infection among young people
Introduction. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a viral condition that affects the skin and mucous membranes in various areas of the body, particularly the genital region. It is the most common sexually transmitted infection, and it can lead to precancerous lesions or various types of cancer. Young people's knowledge about HPV infection is crucial for the prevention and management of this condition, which can have serious consequences on reproductive health and quality of life. The aim of this study is to assess the level of awareness and understanding among young individuals regarding HPV infection, to identify their sources of information, to evaluate their preventive behaviors, and to measure their knowledge about the virus, its causes, complications, treatment, and prevention. Methodology. This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study based on an online questionnaire, which included 360 subjects. Conclusions. To increase adherence to preventive measures, it is essential to implement public health strategies focused on education, the promotion of HPV vaccination, and encouragement of participation in screening programs, especially among young people. Additionally, improving communication between the general population and healthcare professionals is crucial for enhancing preventive outcomes.
