Sinonasal malignant melanoma: a case report
Sinonasal malignant melanoma is a rare and highly aggressive tumor from melanocytes. Its non-specific symptoms often delay diagnosis, allowing for rapid local invasion and distant metastasis. This case report underscores the clinical significance of early recognition and management of sinonasal malignant melanoma. A literature review was conducted between April and May 2024 using the keywords “Malignant Melanoma,” “Sinonasal,” and “Medial Maxillectomy” across databases including PubMed Medline, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. We present the case of a 74-year-old male diagnosed with sinonasal malignant melanoma. The patient received one cycle of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil, followed by tumor excision via a Medial Maxillectomy with Lateral Rhinotomy approach. Surgical resection remains the primary modality for treating sinonasal malignant melanoma, with adjunctive radiotherapy and chemotherapy considered based on individual case factors. Increased awareness of this malignancy is essential for optimizing treatment and prognosis.
