The Influence of Multilingualism on the Emotional-Volitional Sphere of a Person

Abstract. Studying language should be carried out together with other psychological processes because all of them have a connection with each other and influence. This research has the purpose of theoretically analyzing the concept of multilingualism and its varieties, empirically proving the influence of multilingualism especially on functioning aspects in the emotional and volitional sphere that is to susceptibility to stress and ability to self-manage. Empirical research was built based on a system-functional and personal-activity approach, which is based on the principle of network organization knowledge. There was taken into account importance interdisciplinary discourse. There was used the tests “Tendency to stress” and the “Ability to self-manage” technique (according to N. M. Peysakhova). Mathematic analyses were made with the help of primary mathematical statistics, Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient, and univariate variance analysis. There was a proven straight positive connection between the number of languages a person knows and the level of development of the ability to self-manage; between the number of languages which know the person and the level of tendency to stress. Univariate variance analysis statistics confirmed meaningful influences languish to the peculiarity of self-manage and level of stress experiences of respondents. The results of the research prove the important role of language in the life of people, in influencing to form and development emotional-volitional sphere. The more languages people know the better they can control themselves and society, make decisions, set aims and plan their future. However, when a person knows many languages it lowers his ability to control his emotions and oppose to stress situations. Keywords: multilingualism, bilingualism, language, speech, emotional-volitional regulation, systemfunctional approach, control, self-regulation, stress.
