A rare form of intravesical implant migration in a child with vesicoureteral reflux

Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is present in 6-12% of healthy children and in 36% of patients with chronic pyelonephritis. Objective. To demonstrate the result of minimally invasive treatment of a rare complication of endoscopic treatment of VUR in a 9-year-old girl. The patient had severe infravesical obstruction after endoscopic treatment of 3rd degree VUR on the right side. The examination revealed an implant in the capsule that had shifted to the bladder neck and blocked the urethra during urination. The implant was extruded through the incision of the capsule, and persisting obstruction was noted on examination. Complete transurethral removal of the implant together with the capsule was performed. The control examination revealed a periureteral diverticulum of the bladder, the opening of which was mistaken for the ureteral orifice during endoscopic treatment of VUR, which was the cause of implant migration; the phenomena of obstruction and infection activity were completely eliminated. Key words: vesicoureteral reflux, endoscopic treatment, bladder diverticulum, implant displacement, children
