Manipulating Blood Flow Using a Dielectrophoretic Simulation Technique
This study presents a non-invasive method to accelerate bone fracture healing by enhancing local blood flow using dielectrophoresis (DEP). External coil systems generate non-uniform electric fields to manipulate red blood cells (RBCs) toward the fracture site, promoting vascularization. We explain DEP theory, RBC dielectric properties, and COMSOL Multiphysics simulations used to optimize coil design and frequency selection. Results indicate that DEP can double RBC flow speed, potentially reducing healing time safely and effectively. Limitations include the need for experimental validation and precise coil placement.
