Mapping Peer to Peer Lending Risks and Technological Trends Through a Bibliometric Analysis
Peer-to-peer (P2P) lending has emerged as a transformative innovation in the financial technology landscape, offering decentralized alternatives to traditional banking systems. As adoption increases, concerns related to credit risk, data privacy, and regulatory challenges have gained prominence. This study aims to systematically map the evolution of research on P2P lending risks and associated technological trends through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis. Drawing upon 371 Scopus-indexed publications from 2008 to 2025, data were analyzed using the Biblioshiny package in R to uncover prevailing themes, influential authors, high-impact publications, and emerging keywords. The analysis reveals a growing scholarly focus on transaction security, credit risk management, and the integration of technologies such as artificial intelligence and Blockchain to enhance operational efficiency and trust in P2P lending platforms. Thematic mapping further indicates a shift from traditional financial concerns to advanced risk mitigation strategies supported by data-driven tools. Trend analysis shows that recent research increasingly emphasizes the importance of ethical algorithm design and regulatory frameworks in ensuring equitable access and user protection. The study concludes that interdisciplinary collaboration among academics, fintech developers, and regulators is essential to address the evolving complexities of P2P lending. These findings offer valuable insights for guiding future research, informing policy development, and fostering sustainable innovation within the digital lending ecosystem.
