IoT-Based Water Quality Monitoring System
Water pollution is an increasingly critical global challenge, against which environmental sustainability and public health are broadly threatened. Interventions for effective surveillance of key parameters of water quality-pH, turbidity, temperature, and total dissolved solids (TDS)-are essential in identifying pollutants in order to flag water safety issues for investigation. Conventional water testing methods have traditionally been laboratory-based chemical analyses that tend to be laborious, time-consuming, and mostly limited to stationary equipment. This paper aims at enhancing efficiency and accessibility of the water quality monitoring system by developing an IoT-based water quality monitoring system with low-cost. Our system, unlike other conventional systems, adopts sensor technology incorporated to the Arduino Uno controller to enable continuous real-time remote monitoring of water quality parameters. Sensor information is treated and sent to the ThingSpeak API for online visualization and analysis. The system allows for the cost-effective, portable, and scalable methods of offering assignments in water quality assessment. Such an approach permits preemptive pollution detection and enhances the control of habitat environmental monitors. Using IoT-based smart sensing, this system offers a more dynamic, real-time alternative to old testing, reducing intervention with humans while increasing accuracy and timeliness. Furthermore, its cloud-based data processing and remote access capabilities enable researchers, and environmental agencies to monitor multiple water sources at the same time. The system's modular design enables future integration with machine learning models.
