A Forensic and Technological Perspective: AI-Powered Domestic Violence Hotlines

Violence against women and children is one of the most important social problems of the world and hotlines are sometimes the only way for victims to get help. Nevertheless, prank calls, high load of calls, and problems with the risk assessment are the main drawbacks that hinder the development of these services. This paper aims at investigating how AI technologies can enhance the management of calls, correctly determine high risk cases and help with the forensic investigation of domestic violence cases. Based on a systematic review of the current AI applications, this paper develops a workflow model for integration of certain AI technologies to domestic violence hotlines to expedite the screening process and systematize risk assessment, and also discusses how AI integration supports collection of forensic evidence.
