Univo: An AI-Supported, Gamified Learning Platform for Enhancing Student Engagement and Performance
This study presents the design and development process of Univo, an interactive, modular and gamified digital learning platform designed for universities. While traditional e-learning tests often prefer to overcome retention limitations that encourage passive content consumption, this platform offers a personalized learning experience by providing student-centered, active exchange and self-regulation.Technically, it is built with up-to-date and open-source technologies such as React.js for front-end, Flask for back-end operations, and MSSQL for data management. The developed prototype offers module-based content delivery, interactive exercises, exam-oriented assessments, and a gamified experience point (XP) system to promote engagement. Users’ individual learning progress is automatically tracked by the system through backend logging. Based on performance data, areas of difficulty are identified, and content suggestions are generated through a rule-based recommendation logic. This structure supports adaptive learning by guiding students toward the topics they need to focus on most. In the following stages, this recommendation system is expected to evolve into a machine learning based recommendation feature that generates dynamic suggestions according to the user's development. The prototype version shows the potential to support student motivation and learning enhancement. The system will be further tested with usability tests and data analytics for a better understanding of the users' learning process, such as by providing personalized recommendations and tracking their progress. Overall, Univo offers an exemplary approach in the field of educational technologies.
