Adaptive Lempel-Ziv (LZ) Encoding for Diverse Inputs
Lossless data compression techniques use the Lempel-Ziv (LZ) algorithm family as their fundamental basis through LZ77, LZ78, and LZW implementations because they demonstrate ease of use and universal application. Traditional LZ-based algorithms encounter difficulties during encoding operations involving inputs containing numeric patterns, uppercase, lowercase, alphanumeric letter combinations, and special characters. This paper builds an adaptive Lempel-Ziv encoding method using C programming to overcome the operational challenges it identifies. The proposed technique builds a mutable dictionary system for various input sequences while developing sequence groups by implementing progressive Lempel-Ziv grouping rules. The algorithm implements a dummy dictionary launch procedure that achieves full symbol coverage while using a fixed-length codeword protocol which maintains code consistency across different input domains. The experimental results show that the proposed approach exhibits better encoding flexibility and better structural stability and better performance efficiency compared to conventional LZ methods.
