HOUSING AND SETTLEMENT WORK BY THE SOCIAL ECONOMY INSTITUTE AS A CHALLENGE FOR SETTLEMENT
<ns3:p>The study presents in a synthetic way selected housing and settlement works of the IGS scientific community in the aspect of unresolved or unresolved challenges of inhabiting with universal values reaching today's global threats to the future of settled civilization. Tendencies and positions regarding the work of those representatives of the IGS community in which these challenges crystallized to a relatively greatest extent, starting from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, through the interwar, occupation and post-war periods before and after 1989, were presented. The applied method of analysis consisting in a review of the literature on the subject was subordinated to the reduction of the housing and settlement spectrum of the achievements of the IGS environment. In the generalizations and conclusions, the pro-social reflection on the housing and settlement issue, which breaks down against the hard realities of economic growth, is emphasized. Insufficient counteraction to the challenges of inhabiting with universal values, standing in opposition to the paradigm of economic growth, is underlined, which is gaining increasing warning importance. The tendency to functionally and spatially loosening and unbalanced, and sometimes to break the relationship between workplaces and residence, emerging from the industrial revolution, was elevated to the rank of the evolving housing and settlement achievements of the IGS environment, the overriding global challenge of rooting inhabitation, the approach to which will determine chances of humanity's survival.</ns3:p>
