Laser-assisted fabrication and structural control of layered hybrid lead halide perovskites
Abstract Organic–inorganic hybrid lead halide perovskites are promising materials for photovoltaic applications. Their low-dimensional derivatives also exhibit excellent optoelectronic properties, making them attractive for novel photonic devices. In this study, we demonstrate the one-step synthesis of two-dimensional (2D) and quasi-2D lead bromide perovskites via liquid-phase laser ablation of a bulk methylammonium lead bromide target in solvents containing alkylamines such as butylamine, octylamine, and methylamine. This method produced periodic multilayer structures composed of monolayer or bilayer lead bromide octahedra separated by organic cations. The interlayer spacing was precisely controlled by the alkyl chain length. Furthermore, the same approach enabled the synthesis of lead-free 2D tin bromide perovskites from methylammonium tin bromide targets, with effective suppression of Sn(II) oxidation. These results highlight laser ablation as a simple and versatile method for fabricating functional layered perovskites with tunable structures and potential applications in optoelectronics.
