Harnessing Deep Learning for Early Detection of Plant Diseases: A Comprehensive Approach

Plant diseases lead to severe impacts on yield and quality, which result in huge financial losses and food shortages. Detection is a crucial activity in disease management, which takes place at a fast pace with low errors. The present paper puts forward a cutting-edge plant disease detection system along with deep learning techniques and image processing. This work utilizes application of CNN in automatic identification and classification of leaf's different types of diseases. The proposed methodology includes preprocessing, feature extraction, categorization, and picture collection. For quality improvement, high-resolution images of healthy and diseased plant leaves are collected and preprocessed. It is scaled to understand the images more, and then it is converted to grayscale. Noise is reduced using a median filter. Features are extracted using convolutional layers, while fully linked layers with Adam optimization are used in classification to ensure accurate prediction. This incorporates Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping, which identifies regions of the picture that affect judgments made by the model. Such transparency fosters trust in systems, particularly where applications like agricultural diagnostics are a matter of life and death. It has been trained and tested on the PlantVillage dataset and proven to have excellent accuracy in identification and categorization of plant diseases. In addition to effectiveness, explainable AI guarantees the reliability and accountability of the detection process. The study here details how deep learning might transform control over plant diseases, support sustainable agricultural methods, and enhance food security.
