Digital Stability Analysis and Evaluation of Earthen Architectural Sites for Preventive Protection

Earthen architectural sites are significant in historical and cultural heritage research but are vulnerable to deterioration from natural environmental factors, compromising structural stability. This paper proposed an enhanced preventive protection framework based on Finite Element Analysis (FEA), incorporating 3D modeling, digital simulation of reinforcement strategies, and material-specific performance evaluation. The stability of the 3D model of the site under simulated vibration and structural erosion was analyzed. For the deterioration that can cause the structural changes of the site, FEA was used to identify the parts of the solid model that affect the stability of the whole structure. Then different reinforcement strategies are added to the original model and the effect of different reinforcement options on the overall stability of the site is assessed using FEA techniques. Finally, the most appropriate strengthening strategy is selected to enhance the structural stability of the site and extend its preservation period. The solution can be widely applied in the field of preventive conservation of all types of ancient buildings and offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional conservation approaches, minimizing secondary damage and reducing human resource waste.
