Development of a Mentorship-Based Instructional Model Connecting STEM Career Exploration: A Case Study of University-Affiliated Science Gifted Education Centers
This study aims to develop instructional models for the mentorship-based research programs offered by university-affiliated science gifted education centers, with a focus on enhancing students’ exploration of and readiness for STEM careers. To achieve this, we analyzed four domain-specific programs—mathematics convergence, information convergence, physics convergence, and biology convergence—and derived a four-phase common instructional model: (1) topic exploration and problem definition, (2) research design and implementation, (3) data analysis and product creation, and (4) presentation and feedback. Based on this, subject-specific models were proposed. The mathematics model emphasizes creative output and collaboration through problem-solving and algorithm design. The information model focuses on AI model development, digital tools, and performance comparison. The physics model centers on experimental design and interpretation using sensors and equipment. The biology model integrates experiments on social issues like environment and health, connecting findings to real-world contexts. These results offer practical guidelines for structured and quality-driven Mentorship program design and contribute to future gifted education policy and curriculum development.
