The Biological Utilization Value of Ptecticus tenebrifer's Life Cycle

This study is about the overall utilization value of the life cycle of Ptecticus tenebrifer. A dedicated growth device was designed and manufactured to obtain larvae, molted shells, and adults of Ptecticus tenebrifer. The 1st instar larvae were placed in rice, beef, pork fat, and cabbage, respectively, and the degree of organic matter degradation was evaluated. As a result, all substrates except cabbage were efficiently decomposed by the larvae, and the growth of Rapid cycling Brassica rapa(RcBr) in the resulting feces-soil mixture was inhibited. The molted shells were collected and the degree of heavy metal adsorption in the spent battery solution was measured by Scanning electron microscope-Energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM-EDS). As a result, it was confirmed that Zn2+ and Mn2+ were effectively adsorbed by the porous structure. In addition, the growth rate of RcBr was high in the culture soil mixed with the molted shells, and when heavy metals were treated, the growth rate decreased, but the expression of anthocyanin pigment of RcBr increased. The growth amount was increased when the stem length and leaf width of RcBr were investigated by foliar application of chitosan synthesized from the molted shells. Biodiesel was produced through adult insects, and a yield of approximately 63.3% was obtained. The calorific value of the biodiesel produced is 0.35 kcal, making it difficult to use as an energy source in the future.
