Computational analysis of the stress-strain state of a pipeline laid across a ravine using the finite element method

This article presents a static analysis of a pipeline laid across a ravine, accounting for its weight, the weight of the gas, and operational loads such as product pressure and temperature. The internal excess pressure within the pipeline is 7.5 MPa, and the temperature difference is 30°C. To solve the problem an algorithm and a program based on the finite element method were developed. The study explores the effects of the pipe's geometric characteristics, the width of the ravine, operational loads and the presence of supports on the deflection and stress experienced by the pipeline. The results are illustrated through graphs depicting the deflections and maximum stresses of the pipeline. It is concluded that the deflection of pipelines laid across ravines is significantly influenced by the width of the ravine, the presence of supports, and the linear rigidity of the pipeline. In contrast, the total length of the pipeline and operational loads have minimal impact on its deflection. Notably, the presence of supports in the ravine area leads to a reduction in deflection and a decrease in stress inside the pipeline.
