In modern legal systems, the protection of human rights concerns not only individuals at large, but also includes ensuring the right of detainees and prisoners to adequate nutrition and access to essential food products in accordance with national and international legal norms. The right of detainees and prisoners to adequate nutrition and access to essential goods is one of their fundamental rights and is essential for ensuring their health and a decent standard of living. The purpose of this article is to study the legal basis for ensuring the right to nutrition and access to essential goods of detainees and prisoners in the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and in international standards, using normative-analytical and comparative methods. The task is also to compare national law enforcement practice with international standards. As a result of the study conducted by the author, it was established that, despite the existence of provisions on the right of detainees and prisoners to adequate nutrition in the current national legal system of the Republic of Azerbaijan, there are gaps in comparison with the Nelson Mandela Rules of the UN and the European Prison Rules. In conclusion, the author offers relevant recommendations for eliminating these legal gaps and bringing the current legislation into line with international standards and the experience of foreign countries.
