A Compact Triple Notch UWB Antenna for WBAN Applications

This paper presents a compact triple notch planar ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna for wireless body area networks (WBANs). The proposed antenna mitigates the interference from three conventional narrowband communication systems like WIMAX operating at 3.5 GHZ, WLAN operating at 5.5 GHZ, X band satellite communication downlink operating at 7.5 GHZ with notch bandwidths (3.3–4.6 GHz), (5.11–6.26 GHz), (7.15–7.91 GHz) respectively. A complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) and two unequal L-shaped stubs are incorporated into a semi elliptical radiating patch to notch the three bands in UWB range of 3 GHz to 12 GHz. The design achieves a size reduction due to semi elliptical patch and two stubs. Simulated results demonstrate the proposed antenna's suitability for WBAN applications, showcasing its capability to effectively suppress interference while maintaining compactness and high performance.
