RF Behavior Analysis of High-Power Millimeter-Wave Gyrotrons Using GDS V. 2024

In this work, RF behavior studies of two-high power gyrotrons are carried out using in-house code package Gyrotron Design Studio (GDS V. 2024). A 42 GHz, 300 kW gyrotron with operating cavity mode <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\text{TE}_{0,3}$</tex> and a 165 GHz, 1.5 MW coaxial cavity gyrotron operating in the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\text{TE}_{31,18}$</tex> mode are considered for this work. For the coaxial cavity gyrotron, interaction cavity circuit contains insert with triangular shaped longitudinal corrugations. RF behavior studies (include, cold-cavity analysis, single-mode self-consistent calculations, multi-mode calculations) are performed for optimizing the interaction cavity dimensions of the gyrotrons towards achieving the desired power level. Electron beam parameters and magnetic-field are optimized through these calculations so as to obtain the targetted single mode output power. The results of these studies are compared with the experimentally reported work and the performance of the GDS package is well in the acceptable level of coherence.
